It's open, but unfortunately it's not publicly specified or documented other than in source code.

And as long as we're clarifying things, Autodesk did not write an FDO provider for PostGIS.  It made it into one revision of the FAQ and that's as far as it went.  Because of the importance of this data source, a PostGIS provider is currently under development, and should be ready for some initial beta testing really soon.
