NeoGeography? What kind of mashup is that?

Ack, this is my last post for a while, promise…

I’ve heard the term neogeography a couple times before, and most recently saw it on the High Earth Orbit blog (by way of Planet Geospatial) with a link to the new site called neogeography.net.

The thought that keeps popping into my mind when I hear this term is: Couldn’t they have mashed it up a bit more? Like, into “Neography”?

I use the term “neography” myself, much easier to say, though I think that is perhaps still “slang on slang” ;)

Actually, based on Caitlin’s article here on my new book, Introduction to Neogeography, I was rethinking my own comment on “Neography”. In researching for the book, I looked up ‘neography’ which has a difference meaning.

    From Wikipedia:

A constructed script (also artificial script, neography) is a new writing system specifically created by an individual or group, rather than having evolved as part of a language or culture like a natural script.

Therefore, “Neogeography” is actually a better term, since it is “new-geography”. Or perhaps, NeoCartography or NeoGIS? At least that’s better than “Mapping 2.0″. :)
